My Patron, Danica Hoyt, is a historian preserving the legacy of the Voyager 1 probe. Even though it has long since powered down, Patron trails behind it with a mobile museum, teaching tourist about early space exploration. They even have a scale duplicate that is constantly measuring its surroundings just as the real probe did so many years ago.

Looking back on Steven Universe, Connie was a genius addition to the cast. Yeah, the gems were cool and definitely the main draw of the show, but Connie was always there to keep Steven grounded in humanity in a way that Greg really couldn’t because of his role as a parent.

There were lots of human characters that Steven interacted with, but it was obvious that they were side characters, people to be saved or plot devices. Connie was different. She was a driving force in the show, able to move freely between human and gem centric plots, and the story would have played out much differently if she hadn’t been around.

I could see Steven really losing touch with humanity without her, especially as the story progressed and so much of his identity was wrapped up in his mom.

Connie is a great character on her own too. I love how relatable her struggles with her parents are and how learning to swordfight and going on adventures overlaps so well with all sorts of new things kids go through. Yeah, no real kid is riding a lion through portals, but seeing how she opens up to her parents could be really meaningful for a lot of viewers.
