I know what you’re thinking. You don’t remember the Cheshire Cat ever saying that. I don’t blame you either. It’s not from the books or even the movies. The quote comes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, a title that would be stupid if it weren’t followed up by Dream Drop Distance. Anyway, when I first played Days, I didn’t expect to find anything profound until I stumbled across this Cheshire Cat dialogue. I didn’t realize until much later that the quote bears a striking resemblance to something Hitler’s Propaganda Minister said which paraphrased is basically “The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed.” Which is pretty depressing considering our current political climate. However, I think the Cheshire Cat is taking a much more hopeful stance on the issue since afterwards he says, “Let your heart decide.” I think he means that searching for ultimate truth can often be fruitless, so just believe what you want to believe and try to be happy.
Do you want to make the Cheshire Cat say something else? Here’s a free text tool. The interface is a little clunky, but it gets the job done. I like the Sienna font.
