I love what Madoka Magica did for the magical girl genre. There had always been heavy themes in magical girl shows, but this was the first I had seen that went into those themes in such depth and complexity. Not everything is perfect, but I’m glad that it opened the doors of what’s possible so that other shows could follow suit.
