My Patron, NinjaGoemon, has taken up protecting Hawaiian monk seals. Apparently, people are much less likely to disturb endangered animal habitats if they think the whole area is haunted. NinjaGoemon has set up a rotating post of ghosts to keep tourists and fishers away.

So, there are five scrolls and this is just the first one. I’ll be posting the others once I’m done. These are designed to fit into a 4 inch hoop when stitched on 14 count aida.

This is my first time sizing up a sprite. I thought it would be easier than shrinking a sprite, which I’ve done before, because I’m not losing any pixels, but it turns out that making a sprite bigger is actually really difficult too.

Especially with something geometric and symmetrical like this. You basically have to add details that weren’t there to begin with and make guesses as to what the original was trying to show. I ended up just recreating the whole thing from scratch because I couldn’t get the proportions and shapes right with the scaled up version.

I learned a lot though. Changing the size of a sprite can be awkward, but at least this one was pretty clear as to what details were important. It would be really hard to blow up a complex character sprite or something like that where every pixel matters, but this one wasn’t too bad.
