Yes, I know I just did an FMA pattern like a week ago, but I’m on a bit of a kick lately. I always liked the way non-alchemists are portrayed in this series. In a lot of shows, people with superpowers are treated as more important than normal people, if not in universe then at least narratively. And, yes, alchemists do get more screentime in this show, but they aren’t dismissed as cannon fodder or peasants. Non-alchemists like Hawkeye and Winry are given proper backstories and motivations beyond being a civilian to be saved or a mascot character. Too often, the benefits of being just a human are swept aside for cool magic battles. Characters like Sokka, Marco, and Hawkeye serve as a reminder that sometimes you can’t beat the Badass Normal.
