I always liked Alphonse better than Edward, but I feel like he’s a more interesting and complex character because of of his relationship with Ed. I love their dynamic. There are so many times where Al is the calmer, more mature brother, which makes it all the more hilarious when he is mistaken for being older. I also love his struggles with memory. He thinks that his memories are real, but there is always that chance that maybe they’re false. What I find fascinating is that this actually happens all the time in the real world. The human brain is not perfect. Treasured childhood memories could be completely wrong. I have a vivid memory of playing a game on the computer that was never released for PC. Now that Al’s memories are not relying on a physical brain, his memories might actually be the more reliable of anyone else in the cast.
