Looking back, the game is pretty torperific, but I give it a pass because of shear volume and variety of events. When you have a game with the scope of FF7, you kind of have to fall back on a few cliches… okay, maybe a lot of cliches.
Final Fantasy 7 stands out to me as my first major use of online walkthroughs. It was a time when strategy guides were popular, but before I had enough disposable income to buy them. So, I went to the internet to try and learn how to get a golden chocobo and where to find Yuffie. I even had a scare at the end when I thought I was stuck in the crater, not strong enough to beat Sephiroth. I didn’t play for weeks until the internet told me there was a cave I had missed that led back to the Highwind. I felt like an idiot, but I did eventually beat the game.
