I want to talk about SAO, because I know it’s popular to hate on the show, and I admit it’s pretty bad, but I wouldn’t say that it’s remarkably so. Some people seem to think that everything wrong with the show is somehow an offence worth rioting about, and it really isn’t. I know you guys expect me to just tear into it like I do with my first three episode reviews (see Angel Beats), and I totally could, but I’m not, if only because everyone else has beaten me to it. I know the plot makes no sense and the characters are stupid, but I have to admit that I loved the visuals. Each floor looks unique and I found myself wanting to watch just to find out what other environments there were. Kirito and Asuna’s relationship actually went somewhere, and that one skeleton boss was a genuinely creepy design even though the CG was awkward. I stopped after the first season though. That Alfheim arc was unbearable.
If you’re a fan of Sword Art Online and you haven’t checked out SAO Abridged then you are missing out. It has all the same visuals, but with a plot and dialogue that actually make sense. It’s a better show in almost every way.
Frankly, I really just made this pattern because I thought it would be funny if someone stitched it out on a dog sweater.
