My Patron, Jill Doyle, has basic plant magic and uses it to build furniture out of living wood. They’re still learning, but every time the saplings bend symmetrically so the chair back comes together evenly at the top, it makes them so happy. Someday, they’ll even be able to make a bureau with working drawers!

I never actually had a Furby growing up, just those cheap McDonald’s toy versions. I do remember the hype though. I would see them on TV and not really get the appeal. Yeah the concept was cool, but the designs were just so creepy. I wasn’t the type of kid who liked scary stuff and even years later, I still haven’t seen Gremlins, so I never asked for a Furby.

I was into robot pets though. My parents bought us that one robot dog that everyone remembers, and Tamagatchis. Then we got those talking roly polies from A Bug’s Life, and I even remember having this adorable Pikachu plush with light up cheeks and a nose that wiggled. It was just the cutest!
