Ah the Digivice, more likely to get mistaken for a vape than a pokeball. I just took a look at the new Appmon, and as someone who lost interest at Tamers, I’m a little on the fence about this. The new Digivice is called an Appli Drive, a name which intentionally invokes Apple more than if they had just called it an Appi Drive. It’s that extra L that makes the difference. I went through all the new Appmon, and yeah some of them are stupid, but a lot of the old Digimon were stupid. The thing that bothers me is that there are no longer any simple or cute Appmon. The closest thing to a Rookie level Digimon I found was Tutomon. Standard seems to have replaced Champion and there’s nothing below that. It’s kind of sad since having a bunch of levels of evolution is what set Digimon apart from Pokemon. Being able to revert back to a simple state saved on animation too because they didn’t have to draw every single detail all the time. Appmon can’t digivolve by themselves anymore like they used to either. They can only fuse. I’m not entirely adverse to the changes, I just wish they hadn’t cut so much. As it is, the whole thing feels like a new IP that was trying to copy Digimon, but suddenly got handed the license.
