My Patron Nat is a gym trainer in Goldenrod City. On top of trouncing challengers with their awesome Ratatta, Nat has recently scored an internship at Radio Tower. Ratatta and Nat help record sound effects for the broadcasts and it’s surprisingly fun.
I’m playing Pokemon Shield right now and I’m liking it a lot more than the Let’s Go games. It’s more difficult and I find myself switching out and using items and even letting pokemon faint. I know, bizarre right? It’s fun to actually have to worry about abilities and held items again.
I’m still mad about the insanely slow trainer battles, though. In the options you can turn off battle animations, but that doesn’t remove the most repetitive and uninteresting parts of the battles, namely the two trainers throwing balls, the pokemons’ intro animations, fainting animations, and Dynamax animations. These are all great for building an atmosphere during gym leader battles or rival battles, but they really don’t need to be there when up against Bug Catcher Phil or whoever. I would love to see three settings for turning off animations: on, off, and play only during major battles. That way I don’t miss out on the developers’ intended experience, but I don’t get bored with slow route trainers.
